Darren Thorpe, Managing Director, APR | Leading Sustainable Recycling

‍Darren Thorpe is the Managing Director and founder of APR Recycling, one of Australia's leading recycling businesses. Since commencing trading in May 2002 as a cardboard and paper recycling operation, Darren has grown APR Recycling into a multi-stream business that has processed more than a million tonnes of material.

‍Over more than two decades, Darren has driven the deliberate expansion of APR's capabilities; from secure document destruction and plastics recycling through to kerbside materials recovery, including the introduction of glass-out processing to significantly improve the quality of recovered materials.

‍‍Most recently, Darren has spearheaded the development of Australia's first commercial-scale soft plastics advanced recycling facility at Maddingley, Victoria, where they are converting end-of-life soft plastics into synthetic crude oil for use in new food-grade packaging and closing the loop on one of Australia's most challenging waste streams.

Darren is a Board Director of Saving Plastic Waste CRC (SPW) and serves as Chairman of the SPW UIAC Committee.
