VEOLIA ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES (AUSTRALIA) PTY LTD GUILTY OF BREACHING LICENCE CONDITIONS UNDER THE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION ACT 2017
On 2 July 2024, Veolia Environmental Services (Australia) Pty Ltd (Company) entered a guilty plea at the Echuca Magistrates’ Court to a charge laid by the Environment Protection Authority Victoria in relation to breach of licence conditions under section 63 of the Environment Protection Act 2017.
The Company was found guilty without conviction, fined $30,000 and was ordered to pay the Environment Protection Authority’s costs of $4,448.
At different times between 5 and 13 January 2023, the Company breached its Operating Licence by:
● failing to cover certain waste which was required to be covered at all times;
● failing to implement litter controls as required;
● failing to cover waste, including the tipping face, at the end of each day’s operations; and
● failing to limit the size of the landfill tipping face to the size permitted.
The Environment Protection Act 2017 requires licences for specified operating activities. Non-compliance with a licence is an offence that may result in prosecution.
