For the last 8 months, I’ve been working at DP World. I’ve had logistics run through my veins since I was a kid, looking up to my uncle who was a farming truck driver with two of my cousins also working in the Transport and Logistics industry and a family friend working with AQIS.
Completing year 12 at the end of 2014, the VTA Cadetship was an opportunity I couldn’t say no too. I was preparing myself for a role in a Warehousing operation but when I got the call for an interview for DP World I didn’t know what to expect. I had very little knowledge of what they did besides working the container vessels that come into Melbourne. I knew that I had a very big opportunity as working in the ports is very difficult to get into and to be able to learn and gain knowledge under the DP World banner was an opportunity I wasn’t taking lightly.

Since joining DP World in January of this year with a fellow cadet, I have been working in Operations doing reports for the terminal and have been exposed to all facets of the company to help gain knowledge and experience. I’ve even had the opportunity to meet the company’s leadership team from the Sydney Regional Office and the companies CEO from the global office in Dubai. This has been an amazing experience as I was welcomed not into a workplace but into a family and everyone wants to see both myself and my fellow cadet strive and succeed.

The VTA Cadetship is one of the best programs going, it helps build your experiences through putting you in a workplace and backing those experiences up with study at the same time. In the time that I’ve been at DP World, I’ve learnt so much and I’ve only scratched the surface of what I can learn with the help of the VTA. I look forward to digging more into the industry, gain more knowledge and experiences but also meet many new people within the industry.
