Resource Recovery Centre Training

The Resource Recovery training has been developed by Sustainability Victoria (SV) and the Victorian Waste Management Association (VWMA) to assist transfer station (now called Resource Recovery Centres) operators and their employees, with guidance and information on Occupational Health and Safety, Waste and the Environment and Operations and Management.
The aims of the training course are:
- To assist operators to work with the public to increase the quantity and quality of the recovered materials (and conversely) to manage waste streams more efficiently
- To ensure resource recovery centres are safe for employees, visitors and environment.
The course is designed to be delivered over 4 – 6 hours (depending on breaks). The course is structured around the Resource Recovery manual which is provided to participants. A number of activities completed throughout the day reinforce the information presented in the resource manual.
The Resource Recovery manual comprises the following sections:
1. Reference Sheets - each providing information in the three core areas
- Occupational Health & Safety (OHS)
- Waste & Environment
- Operations & Management
2. Materials Fact Sheets - each highlighting recovery options for specific materials identiifed by SV as being high priority
- Priority Products Fact Sheets
- Priority Materials Fact Sheets
3. Checklist for Resource Recovery Centres (drawn from the Guide to Best Practice at Resource Recovery Centres (2009))
Participants attending the course are provided with a certificate of attendance.
The course is suitable for employees at resource recovery centres, including both local government and private operators
