IFAT 2010 will be held from 13 - 17 September 2010 in Munich Germany.
Expressions of interest from VWMA members and associates are now being sought for a group visit to IFAT 2010 the largest trade fair on waste in the known universe (well maybe the northern hemisphere). Its huge and I mean huge - it puts Jeff's Shed to shame.
In 2008 - a number of VWMA members visited IFAT and found the experience seriously educational and informative + the beer was cold too.
Munich is an old city - about 850 years - so it has museums and platz and strasse and steins and more cold beer in old beer halls, as well as stylish little cafes in the plazas.
The old Munich airport about half an hour out from the CBD by train, is now a modern exhbition centre where IFAT is held. There is enough room for giant machines (trommels, walking floors, grinders, extruders, separators) as well as trucks, sweepers, compactors, balers, grabs, front lifts, side lifts, rear lifts - the list goes on.
In 2008, it took over three days to see the show - but most people stayed on for a day or two to see the sights - and they are spectacular - the bavarian mountains with their fairy tale castles, and the holocaust memorials, the green parks and gardens, the museums and galleries, food (which isnt that interesting) and did I mention cold beer.
Cost - well around $6,000 - it costs to get into the show, to fly there and accommodation. The advantage of going with someone who has been before is that they know the trains (which are fantastic), the beer halls (which are fantastic) and there are contacts that people have which often get you a free feed (and a beer) at lunchtime.
Expressions of interest are sought by April 30 so that people have enough time to get serious to book flights and we can assist to source accommodation. Once we have sufficient numbers, we will put an itineary in place. It is possible that we can include a side trip to England at the end of the trip (which we will stay 4 - 5 days) for a couple of days and visit Wembley stadium to check out waste collection there.
